Smart materials and digital transformation experts join SmartCity advisory board

Advisory boards help us to interpret the evolution of our strategy. We appoint two new members.

Advisory Boards are an important source of insights on the underlying trends of the thematic strategies we manage. They consist of academic and industry experts whose contextual insights and regular interaction with our investment managers help to interpret the evolution of a theme’s secular growth drivers and enablers, and to evaluate the potential impact on value chains and business models.

We are pleased to announce the addition of two new members to the Advisory Board for SmartCity.

Advisory board member: PRofessor Victoire de margerie
Victoire De Margerie

Victoire is Chairman of Rondol Industrie, active in small scale machinery, as well as a Board Director of Arkema (Specialty Chemicals), Eurazeo (Private Equity), and Babcock International (Engineering Services). Her business interests also include companies providing cold bonding solutions, and membrane coatings to boost the energy efficiency of electric vehicle batteries.

She is the founder of the World Materials Forum, and a graduate from both HEC Paris as well as Sciences Po. Victoire’s PhD is in Management Science from Université de Paris 2 (Panthéon Assas).

Advisory board member: Stefan Metzger
Stefan Metzger
Stefan is responsible for the Smart City program at Swisscom, a major telecommunications provider, which pursues the sustainable development of digital infrastructure in Switzerland. He co-founded the national associations "Smart City Hub" and "Myni Gmeind" (My Community). He began his career as a Mechanical Engineer, and was part of an early electric car development start-up. Stefan holds a diploma in mechanical engineering from the University of Applied Science, St. Gallen as well as a Master’s degree in industrial engineering and economics from the University of Applied Science, Lucerne.

Advisory boards channel deep expertise into our thematic equity platform.

SmartCity strategy

Today, over half of the world’s population lives in urban areas1 and we expect that the population of cities will increase significantly over the coming years. As a result, cities have to find smarter solutions to meet the needs of their residents and improve their quality of life. The SmartCity strategy is designed to benefit from the strong growth opportunities for the companies helping build, run and manage our cities in a better and more sustainable way. The manager of the strategy is Ivo Weinöhrl, CFA, Senior Investment Manager, supported by Lucia Macaccaro, Investment Manager.

Pictet – Pioneers in Thematic Investing

With over 20 years’ experience in thematic investing, we are certain that the thematic approach is a strategy for the future. We’ve been pioneers of the thematic approach since we first identified its potential during the 1990s, when we were one of the first asset managers to launch a biotechnology product.

This was soon followed by our Water strategy, which remains one of the very few dedicated to this unique resource and with its original investment managers. Over the following years we have built up an extensive thematic range of 14 products which covers such diverse industries as Timber, Robotics and Health, allowing our investors to access any number of enduring investment opportunities presented by megatrends.
